Retail buildings are a different class of building… Part L compliant, which entails a high thermal value and reduced emissions.
Retail buildings are steel frame structures, however they must include a composite panel which ensures a higher thermal efficiency, thus ensuring it meets building control regulations. This building type is exemplified in the form of garden centres, office buildings and shops. At CambridgeHOK we offer a complete design and build service, including civils and planning permission assistance, turnkey or part build contracts whilst meeting any budgetary requirements. We can also re-clad a client’s existing building by re-cladding an old glasshouse you can transfrom it into a retail building.
These thermally compliant envelopes are finished to suit the client’s demands and project goals. Previous project have varied from a recycled PVC timber look cladding finish at Bell Plantation which is environmentally friendly, to a complete glazed wall external finish at Belton Garden Centre. Our work at Summer Hill garden centre evidences our part-build service, completing a full turnkey solution 1000sqm extension, including civil works.
CambridgeHOK were also responsible for the design and build of a brand new garden centre in Shrewsbury, being built for The Garden & Leisure Group Ltd. Our biggest retail build yet, the project consisted of a 5,800m2 steel portal frame designed and fabricated in Cambridge’s own manufacturing facility. The build was primarily clad in Kingspan composite, with a polycarbonate roofed external sales area and front canopy walkway. We were also responsible for designing and installing the heating system, with gas fired blown air heaters and the full electrical and control package- using a Priva BMS for all building management systems. CambridgeHOK also installed the HVAC and heat recovery systems within the garden centre office facility.
