New APS Packhouse

CambridgeHOK have been employed by the APS Group to maintain pack house cooling at their site on Chichester food park during a new pack house extension project.

This project needed to be implemented carefully as the existing pack house was still in use and still required to be temperature controlled. A temporary hire chiller was set up on site to replace the old chiller, and a large amount of existing chilled water pipework, which needed to be removed to make way for the extension groundworks.

Temporary cooling was necessary and this took the form of a hire chiller. This approach allowed the building work to start with minimal impact to the grower.

The cooling modifications required some 260 metres of new large bore chilled water pipework to be installed to re-run the chill water away from the new building works.

The associated electrical work involved the following:

  • Decommissioning of existing power supplies
  • The re-routing of all power supplies to the fan coil units in the pack house.
  • The re-running of a 200amp, 3 phase power supply to an external isolator in readiness for the new highly efficient system chiller cooling unit.

This new development will double the amount of packing space on the site and will update all the technology involved in the process so the site will function as efficiently as possible, by the installation of energy efficient cooling equipment.
