CambridgeHOK recently completed a technically challenging glasshouse refurbishment at Syngenta’s Jealott’s Hill International Research Centre.
The contract saw our team work within limited space within the glasshouse at a Syngenta facility to restructure the internal lay-out, split the facility into four separate grow areas, and install the latest leading growing and climate control systems.
It required specific air-flow and heating systems to be provided in each of the four newly created zones, all controlled by a single Hoogendoorn control panel.
Ian Dolman, Operations and Developments Manager at CambridgeHOK, said: “This was a project we were delighted to be commissioned for as it was a really challenging refit job given the glasshouse is quite small overall, and required some substantial technical equipment and systems fitting.
“Each compartment needed its own lighting support frames and specific grow lights installed, as well as their own air intake and extraction systems.
“We essentially designed a solution which retained a central corridor within the glasshouse, allowing access to four new grow rooms.
“By doing this, and ensuring each room is able to offer different conditions, the client has been able to double its capacity and now has a much more flexible facility which better suits the various stages of the plant’s growth.”
Project completed from planning to installation
“We were well supported on site by Keith Williams of CBRE, who project managed the process on behalf of Syngenta, as this was a live site, which already had plants in growth, and so that had to be taken into consideration at all times,” added Mr Dolman.
“It’s great to be asked to supply the technical solutions for research and development clients, and we continue to have many organisations turn to us looking for a way to create specific conditions and environments, as we have unrivalled expertise and experience within our team.”
