One of the UK’s leading salad producers has completed a major upgrade to its lettuce propagation facility to help boost productivity and support its long-term growth ambitions.
G’s Growers worked in partnership with CambridgeHOK, to upgrade the facility to provide tighter environmental controls and enhance crop uniformity.
The construction of a new high-tech germination room using clean room panels formed the centrepiece of the upgrade. The project included a comprehensive overhaul of the HVAC, control and humidification systems, which were designed and installed by our sister company CambridgeHOK Refrigeration to create tightly controlled temperature and humidity conditions which are essential for optimum and even germination.
CambridgeHOK also updated the Hoogendorn ISSI building control system with its latest IIVO system a key technological improvement. The next-generation control platform offers enhanced data analytics, energy efficiency and a user-friendly interface. The new germination room was also added to the IIVO control system to align all systems on site.
G’s is a major supplier of salads and vegetables to UK and European retailers. They expect the upgraded facility to boost productivity within lettuce and celery crops.
Despite a tight turnaround to meet the critical planting schedule, the project was completed on time and with minimal disruption.
“This was a challenging project, but the result is a world-class propagation facility that sets the standard for efficiency and control,” said Matt Ware, Horticultural Applications Advisor at CambridgeHOK.
“Environmental control is everything when it comes to successful germination and propagation and these improvements, especially to the germination room, will make a major difference to crop quality and consistency across the season.”
