CambridgeHOK is proud to announce its official appointment as the exclusive UK build supplier for Cravo Cricket Houses – the revolutionary elite cricket training aid that is taking New Zealand by storm.
As a leading specialist in controlled environment structures, our link-up with Canadian-based Cravo Equipment Ltd, is an ideal partnership which will allow their retractable-roof technology to quickly make its debut in the UK.
Boasting a climate-controlled structure that can maintain natural grass playing surfaces in environments which suffer from unpredictable weather and inadequate indoor solutions, Cravo Cricket Houses are already redefining the elite training of New Zealand Cricket.
Having constructed six Cravo facilities nationwide, New Zealand Cricket now has the ability to manipulate growing conditions and turf preparation to replicate the different wicket conditions that international players may face.
The results have been profound, enabling players to enjoy year-round and high-performance training conditions, giving them a competitive edge to help deliver a historic series win over India in 2024.
With UK cricket facing similar climatic challenges and limited pre-season options, CambridgeHOK’s appointment could soon bring this innovation to top-class county cricket grounds and signal a new era for the domestic game.
“We’re incredibly proud to be partnering with Cravo to bring this game-changing technology to the UK,” said Patrick Harte, joint Managing Director at CambridgeHOK, which is part of the Atrium Group.
“We will oversee the design, construction and delivery of Cravo Cricket Houses across the UK, offering elite and grassroots organisations access to this next-generation training infrastructure.
“As a business that is rooted in innovation and technical excellence, we see huge potential for this system to transform how cricketers prepare, train and develop here in the UK.
“We have already held preliminary talks with a couple of first-class county cricket teams and it won’t be long before their academies and players can enjoy the opportunity to train like the world’s best, come rain or shine.”
Bede Miller, Director of Business Development at Cravo Equipment Ltd, has also expressed his enthusiasm about forming an official partnership in the UK.
“We are extremely excited to work with CambridgeHOK,” said Bede. “We have successful long-term partnerships with other Atrium Group providers, such as Powerplants Australia, and our alliance with CambridgeHOK means we can provide clients with total project solutions and the finest level of support.”
Built for performance, backed by results
Whilst the frame was originally engineered for agriculture, Cravo’s system has been adapted to feature a robust retractable roof that can withstand the harshest conditions. Cricket netting can be easily hung and supported from the structure and complemented by additional equipment such as grow lighting, circulation fans and heating.
Unlike traditional indoor centres built on concrete, Cravo Cricket Houses allow players to train on natural turf in a protected environment, reducing the risk of injury and replicating match conditions more accurately. By simulating overseas pitch climates, teams can better prepare for international competition without the expense of overseas training camps.
Beyond performance, the facilities offer strong commercial benefits – attracting additional sponsorship, media interest and long-term operational savings when compared to conventional training builds.
