Percy Thrower Garden Centre
Thrower Road, Shrewsbury, SY2 6QW
Speller Metcalfe (contractor)
The benefits for our client:
Since opening in March 2015, Percy Thrower has earned its reputation as a stylish garden centre and highly-successful leisure destination.
Although the venue is now much different to the original garden centre, which took its name from the famous TV presenter who opened it in 1970, its diversification should allow it to thrive for another 50 years.
It now provides customers with a range of traditional DIY and retail supplies, alongside several franchise stores. In addition to this, customers can also relax and enjoy bistro-style treats in two popular food and drink areas.
The installation of a Priva building management system also means the site is highly energy efficient – thanks to its automated heating, lighting, ventilation and safety systems.
In the long term, these steps should help to minimise costs, increase revenue and lead to better profit margins.
Scope of our work
More than 160 tonnes of hot and cold rolled steelwork were fabricated and delivered to site during the construction of this single-storey portal frame building.
And it took six months of planning and hard work before this new-build garden centre could be finished in modern Kingspan composite cladding.
Having consulted the architect’s indicative design and an outline M&E specification, the first step was to finalise plans for a detailed design.
Using specialist Tekla design software, we created a 3D model to meet the client’s exacting requirements and ensure every pre-fabricated part would fit together perfectly during the assembly process.
