Garden Centre Energy Installation - Air Source Heat Pumps

Client: Perrywood Tiptree Garden Centre

Location: Colchester, Essex

Project overview:

We were approached by this independent garden centre and nursery as it was looking for an energy efficient heating system to help it reduce its carbon footprint and become as carbon neutral as possible.

Three new Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) were installed, providing a much more energy-efficient heating solution than the old oil-fired boiler system previously used.

Not only does the new system generate fuel savings, but also provides the same CO2 savings as planting over 1,300 trees.

The results:

By switching to Air Source Heat Pumps the garden centre will prevent an estimated 79 tonnes of CO² emissions a year – the equivalent to the average yearly emissions of ten people in the UK.

The pumps crucially produce enough heat for the underfloor heating in the main shop, the coffee shop and restaurant, and the garden shop.

Running off mains electricity, they convert every unit of electricity into three units of heating, a more energy-efficient solution than the old oil-fired boiler system.

Client comment:

Perrywood Tiptree Operations Director Tristan Bourne said: “Investing in Air Source Heat Pumps will immediately reduce our carbon emissions. We are committed to playing our part in the global fight against climate change, and this was the most effective immediate step we could take.”
